Specialised Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle massage treatment that focuses on stimulating Lymphatic flow and restoring function of the lymphatic system by treating the superficial structures.

Specialised Lymphatic Drainage includes the use of Manual Lymphatic Drainage with Decongestive Therapy and scar treatment to help in the prevention, treatment, and management of primary and secondary Lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is characterised by swelling of a limb or area of the body and can be something a person is born with (Primary Lymphoedema), or something that develops because of ‘trauma’ to the lymphatic system such as surgery, cancer treatment (especially when Lymph Nodes are affected), burns and other factors (Secondary Lymphoedema).  There is 4 stages of Lymphoedema, ranging from occasional minor swelling through to irreversible major and traumatic swelling.

Specialised Lymphatic Drainage uses gentle massage techniques that focus on the superficial lymphatic structures to encourage the natural flow of fluid, while also redirecting the fluid toward undamaged lymph nodes.  Used in conjunction with lymph taping, bandaging and the use of compression garments, swelling and fluid build-up can be significantly reduced.

Specialised Lymphatic Drainage can also provide benefit for suffers of lipoedema and other types of oedemas, where the main reason for swelling is not due to the insufficient flow of lymphatic fluid.  The treatment will offer support to the Lymphatic System as a whole, which will be under more pressure and risk of becoming impacted further.
